More Than Hockey
A Hub for Everyone

From figure skaters to first-time skaters, school groups to senior programs, veterans to inclusive teams—this facility will serve the entire Midcoast region not just as a sports complex, but as a vibrant, four-season community asset with something for everyone.

Youth & Learn-to-Play Programs

Helping young skaters start strong

Midcoast Arena will expand access to Learn to Skate and Learn to Play Hockey programs for families across the region. By increasing available ice time, we can welcome more first-time participants, shorten waitlists, and remove barriers to entry—especially for young athletes just getting started.

Impact Highlight:

  • Lower costs through local access

  • Flexible practice and game scheduling

  • After-school and weekend development clinics

Public Skating & School Partnerships

Skating that’s truly for the public

With dedicated hours for open skate, themed family nights, and field trip programming, the arena becomes a destination for everyone—not just organized teams. Our goal is to create a space where kids and parents can skate together, and local schools can offer ice time as part of their enrichment efforts.

Impact Highlight:

  • Community accessibility

  • Rental options for schools, clubs, and homeschool groups

  • Special needs/inclusive skate sessions

Figure Skating & Ice Dance

A Place for Individual Athletes to Thrive

Figure skaters in the Midcoast have long lacked consistent access to training space. Midcoast Arena will provide that—hosting practices, exhibitions, and competitions that grow the sport while deepening community connections.

Impact Highlight:

  • Year-round ice time for routines and drills

  • Club partnerships and regional exhibitions

  • Cross-discipline collaboration with hockey athletes

Adult leagues & recreational hockey

It’s not just for kids

Adult hockey is a growing source of community, fitness, and fun. Midcoast Arena will support men’s and women’s leagues, late-night recreational play, and drop-in sessions—bringing together players of all skill levels in a welcoming, well-managed environment.

Impact Highlight:

  • Evening/weekend revenue opportunities

  • League registration and concession income

  • Local team sponsorship potential

Adaptive & Inclusive Skating Programs

Access for every athlete, on and off the ice

Midcoast Arena will be designed from day one with accessibility in mind—ensuring skaters of all abilities have a place to belong, compete, and thrive.

Our programming will include:

  • Sled hockey, offering competitive play for athletes with lower-body mobility limitations

  • Blind hockey, using specialized pucks and coaching techniques

  • Unified hockey programs, where athletes with and without disabilities train and play together

  • Open-ice sessions for inclusive family skate and adaptive skating instruction

Brunswick’s history as the former home of a naval air station has made it a diverse and resilient community, with many veterans and families who will benefit from having adaptive programming close to home. Midcoast Arena will honor that legacy by welcoming athletes of every background and ability.

Impact Highlight:

  • Fully ADA-accessible design and rink access

  • Partnerships with adaptive sports organizations

  • Local and regional visibility as an inclusive, community-first facility

Off-Ice & Multi-Use Programs

A Year-Round Facility That Evolves with the Season

Midcoast Arena isn’t just a winter destination. During the off-season, one of the ice sheets will be melted down and repurposed as a versatile dry floor space—unlocking a wide range of off-ice programs and revenue-generating opportunities.

Potential uses include:

  • Dryland hockey and skating conditioning

  • Summer sports clinics (soccer, lacrosse, baseball, etc.)

  • Fitness bootcamps, yoga, and wellness classes

  • Community markets or vendor fairs

  • Youth camps, leadership programs, and fundraisers

  • Concerts, movie nights, or indoor festivals

By adapting to the needs of the season, Midcoast Arena ensures the facility stays busy—and financially productive—all year long.

Impact Highlight:

  • Expands audience reach beyond just ice sports

  • Opens doors to sponsorships, rentals, and event partnerships

  • Makes Midcoast Arena a true hub for health, learning, and culture
